Christmas homework
Jan Groover created Kitchen Still Life in 1978 and 1979. She wanted us to consider the beauty within all photos. Jan Groover is considering how to show common beauty in every day work. This is shown by taking close ups of the images. Jan Groover was interested in this issue because she felt it was relevant to us now because people were not understanding the picture within every day objects. Jan Groover has used digital manipulation techniques in creating this work.
These are my photos for this topic...
Andre Kertesz
André Kertész created the image ‘Fork’ in 1928. At this time he lived in Hungary where he mixed with artists from the Dada movement. This image is deliberately simple. Kertesz is paying attention the the photographs composition, emphasising the fork's geometry and form. The fork becomes more than just a kitchen utensil. Kertesz believed photography should reveal the real nature of things. Whilst in Paris Kertesz felt like an outsider. Kertesz expressed this loneliness through the subjects of his photographs. He was able to combine formal compositions with an emotive charge. Henri cartier Bresson said "Each time Kertesz's shutter clicks I hear his heart beating."

We made sure that the shadows were the main focus of the photos and that it was black and white.
Ordinary to extraordinary
Edward Weston
Edward Weston used a graflex 4 x 5 negative camera which allowed him to see his subject matter in the right format before actually taking the photo. His philosophy was to make his own photographic language, he didn't want to follow someone's existing rules and brought beauty to ordinary objects, and as an extension of this he was very specific to what was in his frame. But, he ran into some problems during his photographing, due to his massive exposure time, there would often be a truck or car that passed by it would rock his whole house and he would have to restart the whole photograph. The surprising thing about his work was that he used an apature of 240, which is about the size of a pinprick. Furthermore, he used natural light, where at the time a lot of photographers were starting to use artificial light more.

1st response: natural light
In this task I was required to respond to 'pepper 30' by Edward Weston.

What went well:
Even better if:
- Good focus on the vegetables
- Strong contrast
- Depth of field
- Captured a good likeness to Weston’s pepper
Even better if:
- I had controlled light better.
- the composition was more tightly cropped.
- exposure was correctly exposed. Images are too light / dark.
- images were in focus
Second response: artificial light.
I learnt how to compose a good picture and how to centre and control light.

for these edits we changed the brightness levels and made the photo black and white.

David Hockney
David Hockney is connected to the pop art movement. This movement was interested in responding to popular culture Hockney created that consisted of photographs taken of the same object from different perspectives. The images were then calaged together to recreate the place, person or object even though the overall appearance may look distorted. This work connects with the cubist movement, one of Hockney's major aims.

in this task we had to take pictures of food and take bites out of each photo.
To make this collage I edited my photos on photoshop, adjusted the brightness and levels then outlined them inverse the image and the fill the background with white.
