Idea 1 - Pol Ubeda Hervas
This photographer isolates the subjects by using a realistic and dream theme within his photographs. He does this by taking two photos from the exact same position, (using a tripod) but in the second picture, a certain subject of the photo is removed. This creates a supernatural effect on the viewers mind as it shows the reflection of a shadow, however the subject that created the shadow isn't present.
My response
My first development fits in really well and I have taken pictures of people, experimented with chairs and trees and photographed the long shadows on the kerb made by tiny stones when the sun was low in the sky. With the people I am hoping to create a feeling of vulnerability and isolation by showing the shadow and the shoes with no subject present. The fact that the streets are empty too gives the feeling of an apocalypse and nothing is left in the world except the shadows of people. The shoes are a physical reminder of the people. The light is reflecting off the road around the dead space of the shadow. With the chairs, the pattern is interesting and empty chairs and empty tables show the absence of a subject too which builds on my idea of an apocalypse.

The photos were near enough the same so they were easy to edit.
I took a good amount of photos so i would have variety when editing.
The lighting was perfect in every photo showing a contrast of colours and lightings.
EBI:
In the future i should use a tripod to make sure that the photos are taken from exactly the same position
I took more photos of the chairs so that i could make an edit for the chairs.

Idea 2 - Ansel Adams
Ansel Adams was an American environmentalist and photographer, who is well known for his black and white landscape photography. He was an activist for the cause of wilderness and the environment. What made Ansel Adams different was that he made sure EVERY little detail was captured in his photographs. He took his time and because he loved nature and photography, it only makes sense as to why each picture was so amazing.
My response
In this development, I made sure that there was a large, wide atmosphere so the photo would be full of natures beauty. I did this by finding a half frozen lake in Slovenia that had beautiful reflections of the mountains on the water. Furthermore, the ice acted like a horizon that separated the reflections from the actual mountains creating a lovely symmetrical photo. As well as this, the photos inside the bath linked to the theme 'inside out' and created an mysterious reflection of an isolated forest. I did this by taking the photos from very close to the water, making sure that you could still see the trees in the background of the photo.

Next time I will make sure my shadows aren't interfering with the photo.

Idea 3 - Saul Leiter
Leiter was foremost a painter who discovered the possibilities of colour photography. His images explore colour harmonies and often exploit unusual framing devices - shop signs, umbrellas, curtains, car doors, windows dripping with condensation - to create abstracted compositions of everyday street life in the city. Leiter was fond of using long lenses, partly so that he could remain unobserved, but also so that he could compress space, juxtaposing objects and people in unusual ways. Many of his images use negative space, with large out of focus areas, drawing our eye to a particular detail or splash of colour. Leiter inspired me to use mirrors to reflect the atmosphere around me which presents a range of different colours that will make the viewer appreciate the scenery.
My response
In this task I found windows that were in an isolated atmosphere. As well as this, the windows were incredibly reflective and showed the surroundings behind where the photos were taken. Furthermore, I made sure some of the photos looked spooky and in a remote place.

Good reflections that cover many different themes
There's a wide range of variety, from plain streets in Bovec, to countryside in Slovenia
My best edits sit well together because of the horizontal lines in the architecture

Development 1
In this task I took landscape photos of a large pond that had many reflections in it. The pond had many colourful reflections such as the reflections of the animal themed boats. Furthermore the trees created a nice green reflection on the water which also reflected the blue sky.

The contrast of the colourful creatures amongst nature
The number of different colourful reflections in the water
The ripples in the water added texture to the images
EBI
I experimented taking close up images of the pedalos
I took more pictures from different angles around the pond
Next I am going to select images I have taken over the last few weeks and work on them in the studio using a reflection in ink.

Development 2
My intentions in this task were to experiment reflections using ink. I wanted to do this because I was inspired by the amazing mountains I photographed in Slovenia that were mirrored in the lake. My developments since those pictures concentrate on landscapes within cities rather than the countryside. Using the ink I wanted to try and simulate images like the mirror lake and include buildings and cityscapes too.

This process involved the reflection of some of my photos in ink. I did this by printing out some of my favourite photos and sticking them to a piece of cardboard attached to a tray of black ink 1cm deep. I had to make sure there was a certain amount of natural light coming through the windows so that the photo was not badly exposed in the ink.
WWW:
I didn't know if there would be enough natural light on a cloudy day to give a good reflection but it was OK
I used a tripod to take pictures of the ink reflection so the photo was steady and the reflection line was horizontal
EBI:
I tried to make ripples in the ink to see the effect it would have on the image
There was more ink in the bottom of the tray so it was properly covered because there was a patch near the paper that was not covered
Next I wanted to take more pictures of landscapes and buildings and experiment with more reflections in the ink.

Development 3
In this development I went to Hampstead Heath/ Kenwood to take photos of the landscapes. This area was good because it is a very high point in London that looks over many beautiful landscapes. In this development I aimed to take landscape photographs that would work and fit the criteria for my editing process (reflecting the photos into a tray of ink). These photos were particularly good because it showed a wide range of subjects within each photo that would create a more detailed and creative effect when reflected in the ink.

Development 4
In this development I went to central London to take photographs of buildings for my new editing process. When taking these photos, I aimed to take photos of large buildings that would create a supernatural illusion of them sinking after they are reflected in the ink tray.

To make these photos, I had to print out the photographs and stick them to a piece of cardboard. Then, I had to use a Stanley knife to cut around the buildings so that they were isolated. After that I created triangular stands for the buildings so they could stand up perfectly in the ink. Next, I turned all of the lights off and only opened half of a curtain so that there was the perfect amount of light for the reflections to be perfect.

Development 5
In this development I went to the Thames Estuary to take photos showing the contrast between urban and rural landscapes within one area. The industrial buildings juxtapose the lush landscape of Purfleet-on-Thames and create good options for my editing process. My intentions in this development were to find interesting colours and textures within the area so that I could make engaging images with a view to creating a striking final GCSE piece.

The images of the boat were closer
In the images of the brown grass I did not consider the formal elements and so there is no interest created

I wanted to find tall buildings to contrast with the wide buildings from my previous development. I went to Muswell Hill to photograph the church and then to Old Street because I knew there were skyscrapers there.
